Brigit True Organics has closed its doors
A message from the president and founding partner, Brigitte Rau:
Dear lovely customers and connoisseurs of truly organic, wholesome, soulful and handmade skin care: we bid you farewell for now. It has been a fabulous ride, meaningful and much fun, creating skin care that has been loved and needed by many.
My husband Jon and I started Organic Soaps And Balms in 2001. After 18 years, we have closed up shop. We will be on a sabbatical, spending time with family in Europe. During that time we will evaluate possibilities to continue the business. Even though we went from manufacturing in our home kitchen and selling on the farmer’s market to a commercial facility and selling nationwide, including at Whole Foods, we were not able to gain a supporting market share.
[Do you have a connection to investors? Talk to them, let them know our email: BTOstore@BrigitTrueOrganics.com. We'll be checking-in infrequently.]
Over the recent years small businesses and the organic movement are being squeezed by large brands. Regulation that was meant to protect small organic farmers and businesses is not being enforced and is being hollowed out by recent governmental powers. When we started in 2001 organic body care was a niche market. Now that all mainstream cosmetic companies want a piece of the eco-market the integrity of organic is being clouded by fake seals and hollow marketing phrases that deceive consumers. Retailers are becoming enormous chains that offer their shelf space only to the highest bidders, at prices which small companies cannot afford. Local manufacturing with high quality ingredients has a price.
As the formulator from the first minute, my highest goal has always been to find the purest materials available and highest quality organic ingredients. And to craft our skin care in-house and from scratch. And we are truly happy that we were able to keep that promise and that we had so much fun with it for so many years.
All inventory has sold. We know that a number of our super-sensitive customers are searching for replacements for the Harry soap and body washes. Unfortunately we don't know any other soap as gentle as ours. Feel free to post any results of your searches to our (niche) facebook page.
There might be a chance we will start making items in Europe, maybe by the end of the year. The Magic Balm is the most likely candidate. If so they then might be available on this website (international shipping applies). We will send out information via our newsletter.

As a woman growing up in Germany and immigrating to live in Charlottesville, I am looking forward to times when Neo-Nazis will not be excused when they march our streets, when immigrants will not be locked up in camps, when the taxes of hard working people will be used for helping all to achieve a healthy, nourished life with opportunities and endless possibilities.
See you then,
Brigitte & Jon
